In order to ensure a secure supply of drinking water to private households, agriculture and industry, efficient water storage is essential to cope with peak demaand and emergency situations, especially in arid areas. Aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) is a technique for managing groundwater resources in which water is stored in the natural subsoil and can then be extracted again when needed. Such ASR projects are often a better solution than the construction of surface water reservoirs – both in terms of cost efficiency and in terms of environmental compatibility and protection against pollution.
We primarily use unconventional water resources such as desalinated seawater and treated wastewater for storage and groundwater recharge, but also surface water in connection with flood management.
Dornier planned and supervised the construction of the world’s largest storage facility for desalinated seawater for drinking water supply in the United Arab Emirates.
