Modernisation and efficiency improvements at the GUD power station north in Bonn

The Bonn/Rhein Sieg energy and water supply company operates a combined heat and power plant consisting of a combined cycle plant at its Bonn North site. As part of the funding opportunities offered by the KWKG, the existing power plant was to be modernised and expanded.

The project objectives were as follows:

• Installation of a new, more powerful gas turbine
• Conversion of the existing waste heat boiler to higher steam parameters (increase in steam production)
• Adaptation of the existing steam turbine to new steam parameters
• Installation of another new gas turbine with downstream waste heat boilers
• Integration of the new plant into the district heating system
• Adaptation and upgrading of the cooling water system, including the cooling tower
• Construction of a new workshop building
